Square Ecosystem · Money & Capital

Recurring revenue without a separate billing system.

Memberships, monthly skincare clubs, weekly produce boxes, retainer services — Square Subscriptions handles card on file, dunning, pause/cancel, and prorated upgrades on top of your existing Square account.

Best for

Built for these operators

  • Med spas and salons selling memberships and treatment packages
  • Coffee shops with subscription beans / bottomless plans
  • Service businesses on retainer (cleaning, lawn care, IT)
  • Boutiques piloting curated subscription boxes

What it does

Capabilities that matter on day one

  • Card on file with auto-renewal

Tokenized cards renew on schedule (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual). Customer keeps the card up to date through a self-service portal.

  • Dunning on failed cards

Failed renewal triggers automated retry logic and a customer notification with a one-click update link. Recovery rate is materially higher than manual follow-up.

  • Pause + cancel + grace periods

Customers can pause for travel, cancel at end of cycle, or move to a different tier. Grace-period logic configurable per plan.

  • Tier upgrades with proration

Move a customer from Basic to Premium mid-cycle; Square calculates the proration. No spreadsheet math.

  • Sold online, in-store, or via Invoice

Sell through Square Online (gated content / membership purchase), at the counter (POS), or via Square Invoices (B2B retainer-style).

  • Reporting on MRR, churn, LTV

Subscription-specific metrics — Monthly Recurring Revenue, churn rate, lifetime value — surfaced alongside your transactional reports.
