What we hear from operators

The four problems we solve first

01

Processing eats your margins

Restaurants run on 3–5% net. A 2.6% + 10¢ fee on every check is meaningful — and it compounds with delivery commissions. Standard rack rates or our Duet cash-discount option both put dollars back on the line.

02

Third-party delivery is a hostage situation

DoorDash and Uber Eats charge 15–30% per order. Square Online gives you a commission-free direct-ordering site that integrates with your menu, KDS, and customer list — same brand, your margin.

03

Tip pooling and tip-out math is nightmare fuel

Square handles tip declaration, pooling rules, and tipped-employee compliance natively. No more spreadsheets at 1 a.m. on closing night.

04

Front-of-house chaos kills covers

Floor maps, course pacing, splits, comps, voids, manager overrides — Square for Restaurants is built for the fire drill, not retrofit from a generic POS.

The Square Stack

The exact Square products that fit your business

SugarPay deploys, configures, and supports each of these — billed through Square, activated and trained by us.

  • Square for Restaurants POS

Floor management, course pacing, table transfers, splits, voids, comps, manager overrides, and tipped-employee tools — purpose-built for FOH and BOH.

  • Square KDS (Kitchen Display System)

Replaces paper tickets. Routes orders by station, tracks ticket times, fires courses, and keeps the line on rhythm during a rush.

  • Square Online (commission-free)

Branded direct-ordering site for pickup, delivery, dine-in QR menus, and curbside. Inventory and menu sync with the POS — no separate platform to maintain.

  • Square Loyalty + Marketing

Punch-card-style loyalty, automated win-back emails, birthday rewards, and segmented campaigns built on your real customer data.

  • Square Banking + Loans

Same-day payouts to a Square Checking account; offers for Square Loans show up automatically based on your processing volume.

  • Square Team Management + Payroll

Time clock, scheduling, tip distribution, and Square Payroll designed around tipped employees and split shifts.

Why operators move to SugarPay + Square

vs. Toast

Toast's POS is excellent but its merchant pricing is opaque and contracts are typically 2–3 years. Square + SugarPay is month-to-month, transparent rack rates (or 0% with Duet), and you keep the same hardware-grade FOH/BOH tooling.

vs. Clover

Clover apps fragment quickly across vendors and processors. SugarPay's Square stack is one ecosystem — POS, KDS, online, loyalty, payroll, banking — billed by Square, supported by us.

vs. TouchBistro / Aloha

Legacy restaurant POS with on-prem servers and per-terminal licensing. Square is cloud-native, mobile-first, and updates ship continuously. No server in the back office to babysit.

Detailed comparison pages and migration guides are on the way. In the meantime, tell us your current processor and we'll model the actual savings against your sales.

Vertical FAQ

The questions restaurants operators ask first

Can Square handle a high-volume Friday night?

Yes. Square for Restaurants is used by full-service operators doing thousands of covers per week. Sync is event-driven, the KDS is local-first (works through brief network blips), and printer/KDS routing is configurable per station.

What about tip pooling and IRS reporting?

Square supports tip declaration at clock-out, pool/share rules per station or shift, and produces the reports your bookkeeper needs for tipped-employee filings (Form 8027 if applicable). Square Payroll integrates this directly into paychecks.

Will Dual Pricing scare off my customers?

Duet implements a cash discount, not a surcharge — your menu price IS the card price; cash and check customers see an automatic discount. We configure compliant table-tent signage, on-screen disclosure at checkout, and the receipt language for your state.

Can I keep my existing POS hardware?

Some Square hardware is required (the Register, Stand, Terminal, or KDS-supported tablet). We'll audit your current kit and recommend the leanest swap — and Square Hardware financing is usually available so capex isn't a blocker.

How long does switchover take?

Most single-location restaurants are live in 7–14 days end-to-end: menu build, hardware ship, staff training, soft launch, full cutover. Multi-unit takes longer; we phase by location.
